Chiefs urged to finalise contract extension for a star who has done ‘very well’ for Amakhosi

Despite their recent elimination from the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup in the hands of Zamalek SC, Kaizer Chiefs have been doing quite well.

In the aforementioned competition, they were just a point away from making the quarter-final, but goals from Juan Alvina and veteran Abdallah El Said ensured it did not happen. The Soweto giants had a single strike from Glody Lilepo to ensure the Group D outing ended 2-1.

One of the players who has had a massive impact for the Glamour Boys is goalkeeper Brandon Petersen. The 31-year-old had pulled a series of top saves in the initial games in the pool. The skipper managed two clean sheets for the Soweto giants.

In the Premier Soccer League, Chiefs are placed fourt currently having collected 30 points from the 15 games so far. Petersen has kept 11 clean sheets from the 15 matches played, just one less than compatriot Sipho Chaine, who have played 16 games for Orlando Pirates.

Extend his deal!

The custodian’s current deal with Chiefs concludes at the end of the ongoing season, but Amakhosi have an option to extend the deal by a year. Amakhosi legend Doctor Khumalo believes the custodian has done everything to deserve an extension.

“I think it’s a good thing for him to get a new contract. Because he’s been outstanding, he’s been doing very well irrespective of the results that happened in Cairo,” he told Soccerzone.

“But, overall, he went a couple of games without conceding, and probably that’s the reason why we see Kaizer Chiefs third or fourth on the log. I thought Brandon did very, very well there. Actually he did very well so far,” Doctor Khumalo concluded.

The next fixture for Chiefs will be on Tuesday, February 24 against Stellenbosch in the Premier Soccer League. It will be a massive chance for Amakhosi to avenge their defeat in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32.
