Kaizer Chiefs are preparing to return to the CAF Confederation Cup on October 17 against Zambia’s Red Arrows in the second preliminary round.

The Glamour Boys were exempted from the initial round, which gave them a couple of more days to prepare for the annual competition. In the last edition, Amakhosi narrowly missed out on making the Round of 16.

Kaizer Chiefs Next Matches

Red Arrows made the second round of Africa’s second-tier competition after an aggregate 4-0 win over Inate Rouge of Madagascar.

This will be a massive chance for the Premier Soccer League outfit to get the needed result to make the next phase, and probably go all the way.

In the PSL, Chiefs have been blowing hot and cold, which has left them seven points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played a game more. Amakhosi are currently placed fourth with 13 points, behind Masandawana, Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu, respectively.

The 2025/26 story

Kaizer Chiefs finished third in the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League campaign, for the first time in six years, which was no mean achievement for the Soweto giants who had missed back-to-back MTN8s.

Nevertheless, the management felt the need to make changes in the technical team. Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, who took over from Nasreddine Nabi. But they failed to defend the Nedbank Cup won in the previous season to end a decade-long trophy drought.

Amakhosi further struggled in the Carling Knockout and dropped in the group stage of the CAF Confederation League.

Da Cruz fails first test

Fernando Da Cruz took over from the duo at the beginning of the ongoing campaign.

The MTN8 quarter-final fixture against Golden Arrows was his first test. Unfortunately, he failed to deliver as Brandon Petersen’s mistake saw Amakhosi crash out.

Kaizer Chiefs have been active in the transfer window in their bid to have a competitive squad.

They parted ways with Aden McCarthy (Sabah, Azerbaijan), George Matlou & Happy Mashiane, Tashreeq Morris (Durban City), Gaston Sirino, Given Msimango (Stellenbosch FC), Ashley Du Preez (Stellenbosch FC), Gopolang Taunyana (Stellenbosch FC), Samkelo Zwane (Hope FC, Loan), Bontle Molefe (Hope FC, Loan), Ofentse Kgosana and Vicky Mkhawana (Real Natives), Sfiso Timba (Gomora FC), Naledi Hlongwane (Hofe FC), and Pheko Phago (Hofe FC).
