Chippa United secure first win under new coach

Vusumuzi Vilakazi finally celebrated his first win as head coach of Chippa United after guiding the team to a 1-0 triumph over Orbit College at Olympia Park on Saturday, 24 January.

The Chilli Boys had endured a frustrating run of five winless matches since Vilakazi replaced Luc Eymael in October. However, they began the new year with renewed energy, thanks to Justice Figuareido’s decisive strike in the 60th minute that sealed the contest in Rustenburg.

Chippa had ended 2025 with back-to-back draws against Siwelele and Kaizer Chiefs, while Orbit College entered the clash desperate to halt a four-match losing streak. The Mswenko Boyz sat just two points above the relegation zone in 14th place, adding pressure to their performance.

Both sides created opportunities before the break. Orbit threatened early when Boy Madingwane forced goalkeeper Dumsani Msibi into a save after six minutes. Azola Matrose later struck the side-netting from a free kick.

Orbit’s best chance came on the stroke of halftime when Lethabo Modimoeng tested Msibi from a tight angle inside the box, but the Chippa shot-stopper stood firm.

Figuareido’s Impact

Chippa introduced Figuareido at the start of the second half, and his presence immediately lifted the team. Madingwane cut inside and unleashed a shot that was saved by Nkomo, but the breakthrough arrived on the hour mark.

Figuareido latched onto a long ball, powered past two defenders, and calmly slotted home to give Chippa the lead.

Sinoxolo Kwayiba nearly doubled the advantage late on with a long-range effort that tested Nkomo, but the single goal proved enough to secure victory. The result lifted Chippa off the bottom of the table and gave Vilakazi his long-awaited first win in charge.
