Confirmed: Two Chiefs stars out of vital Stellenbosch PSL date

Kaizer Chiefs will be playing against Stellenbosch for the fourth time this season across all competitions.

The first time was in the Premier Soccer League, where the Glamour Boys secured a 2-0 win. However, Stellies had their revenge in the Carling Knockout, where they eliminated the Soweto giants thanks to their penalty shoot-out win following a goalless draw in both regulation and extra time.

The most recent encounter was in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 where Amakhosi fell 2-1 to crash out. But Gavin Hunt’s men were undone in the next phase by Golden Arrows who won by a solitary goal.

It explains why the Glamour Boys will be going for nothing less than a win at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday. Victory will further reduce the gap between them and leaders Orlando Pirates by five points ahead of the anticipated Soweto derby that will be played on Saturday.

Who will Chiefs miss?

According to club’s co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef, Etiosa Ighodaro and Reeve Frosler are the only players out nursing injuries.

“Ighodaro is still far away, he needs two more weeks; and also, Reeve is out. But I think the other players are ready for [the Tuesday fixture], and for our next game,” he said in a presser.

“Then it depends on the plan of the game and our idea as technical staff, we decide which player will start tomorrow and who will be in the bench,” he concluded.

Stellenbosch are set to miss the services of their dependable centre-back Thabo Moloisane who is suspended.
