South African forward Fagrie Lakay was on target for his Egyptian side Ceramica Cleopatra FC against Percy Tau’s Al Ahly but that was not enough to secure victory.
Ceramica Cleopatra visited Al Ahly for their Egyptian league match on Sunday and it is the champions who showed their might, scoring the opening goal in the first minute through Taher Mohamed.
However, as the Egyptian giants were hoping to take a 1-0 lead to the break, Lakay popped up with a goal on the stroke of halftime to level matters.
Lakay has not bagged two goals for Ceramica Cleopatra
Nine minutes after the break, Mohamed scored his second of the game which turned out to be the match winner as Al Ahly held on until the final whistle.
Tau started the match but was not on the scoresheet although he seems to have won back the trust of coach Marcel Koller.
It was the second goal of the season for Lakay, who also has one assist, for his new club where he is on loan from Pyramids.
How has the ex-Cape Town City forward fared in Egypt?
Lakay left South Africa in 2022 for Egypt, having ditched Cape Town City for Pyramids, where he scored 12 goals and provided four assists in 42 matches in the 2022-23 season.
He would bag the same number of goals and assists in 39 matches last season but the club deemed him surplus to requirements, opting to loan him out this campaign.
The former SuperSport United forward last played for Bafana Bafana in November 2022 when he managed 60 minutes in a friendly match against Angola which ended 1-1.
