Galaxy coach explains why highly-rated ex-Chiefs star is not playing

TS Galaxy head coach Adnan Beganovic has explained why highly-rated Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi has not been getting opportunities since joining the club from Kaizer Chiefs.

Nkosi moved to Galaxy with his stock high, having been one of the outstanding players for the Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge team that won the title last season and was also captain of the team.

With the likes of Khulumani Ndamane and Puso Dithejane making the step up from the Chiefs reserves and also becoming stars in their own right at Galaxy, it was hoped that Nkosi will experience the same but he has so far managed just 11 minutes for the Rockets.

However, Beganovic has hinted that the player’s lack of opportunities is down to him and not the coaching staff, hinting that Nkosi might not be impressing him in training.

“There’s a preparation period for all young players but it is not always on us, some players need more time, some players need less time, some come in an adapt immediately in a few training sessions, to periodisation and everything we do,” Beganovic said as quoted by iDiski Times.

“He has great ability, skill, he’s improved since he arrived until now and in the future we will count on him more, we will give him time to show himself in the game.”

Beganovic then made it clear the player needs to prove to him why he has to be given game time.

“But in the end, as all young players, he needs to improve, take opportunities and show yes, I’m that player who can play and stay in the team,” he added.

“It’s on him, but what I have seen since the start of this season, he has great ability, beautiful passing range, understands the game, a real fighter, and the desire.

“In the future he can be [important] but it’s up to him – until the end of the season to show up.”
