AmaZulu FC coach Arthur Zwane has opened up about the reasons for his decision to stay at the club amid reports that he was wanted by Pitso Mosimane as one of his Bafana Bafana assistants.
Zwane was heavily linked to the Bafana job when Mosimane took over in August before Morena Ramoreboli was enticed from the Botswana national team to become his deputy.

The AmaZulu coach says there has been interest but it is not going to be easy to lure him away from Usuthu as he is not just enjoying his job but also getting everything he needs in Durban.
“I’ve said it more than once that AmaZulu, when they recruited me, they took me away from the team that I was with for 24 years,” Zwane told the media.

Leaving Chiefs was not easy for Zwane
“So, I was like part of the furniture. I felt at home and when I got a call from the President [Sandile Zungu], the first thing I said was President, I’m willing to join, but please, contact chairman [Kaizer Motaung], and if chairman agrees, I’m on board.”
Zwane says the project that AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu sold him was so enticing and he left his job as Kaizer Chiefs youth coach alongside his then assistant Vusimuzi Vilakazi knowing he was making the right move.

“When he explained what he wanted to achieve and the kind of coach he was looking for that project, I felt I’m that coach, together with coach Kanu at that time,” he added as per iDiski Times.
“I felt we’re going to make it big, I think as much as we started very slow, we were shaking, but we grew in stature. We grew with the team, and the president gave us that freedom to grow with the players, to understand the environment as well.”

Zwane has also responded to the great support, first leading AmaZulu to sixth place in 2024-25, before a fourth spot last season, and his team is currently third on the log with 19 points, four behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played a game more.
“With the support that we are getting from our supporters and the management, including the board, the CEO look it’s second to none,” said Zwane.
“Hence, it’s not going to be an easy decision for me to just say; ‘tomorrow I want to move’ you get what I mean and only time will tell, but trust me, I’m enjoying myself. I’m growing. This is a challenge I needed as a coach.”
