‘He could’ve done good job at Kaizer Chiefs’: Sundowns legend on Manqoba Mngqithi

Though Kaizer Chiefs reportedly near the announcement of Nasreddine Nabi as their new coach, a Mamelodi Sundowns legend believes Manqoba Mngqithi is another candidate who held the key to revive Amakhosi' glory days.

Manqoba Mngqithi, currently serving as a senior coach under Rulani Mokwena at Mamelodi Sundowns, has been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs since last season.

However, he opted to stay with Sundowns. With his contract expiring at the end of the month, the negotiations for renewal are in the closing stages according to his agent, Mike Makaab.

Sundowns legend Roger Feutmba says Mngqithi has what it takes to lead any team in the DStv Premiership.

ROGER FEUTMBA BELIEVES MANQOBA MNGQITHI WOULD HAVE ALSO BEEN SUCCESSFUL AT KAIZER CHIEFS

“Manqoba is one of the best tacticians in South African football. He has achieved a lot as a coach and I respect him,” said Feutmba to Soccer Laduma.

“You know at Sundowns with Pitso Mosimane they won almost everything including the CAF Champions League title and there is nothing left for him to prove.

“So, yes I think he can make it as a head coach of any premier League team. He has what it takes. He has the experience and he has the knowledge of the local game.

“He is a very good coach but the choice is with him. It's only him who can decide what he wants to do

“Whether he wants a head coach position or he wants to work the way he is working right now. No one can tell him what to do. But I know he has what it takes to be a head coach on his own.”

While Nabi is trusted to help the club bounce back, Feutmba says Mngqithi could have also been successful at Chiefs.

He feels the former Golden Arrows mentor, with the experience he has acquired, would have been able to rise to the challenge and deal with pressure that comes with Chiefs coaching role.

‘HE COULD HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB AT CHIEFS’

“You know that he could have done a good job at Chiefs. As I have said he can coach any team in the PSL but I have to add that the success of the coach doesn't come on its own,” he added.

“It has to have the support from the people above, then the technical team before the players on the pitch. The management should make the coach get what he wants for him to function.

“They should provide the material that he needs and that's why I think Sundowns are doing better than most teams because they have the support from management all the way down.

“But if Manqoba was given the chance and support to coach Kaizer Chiefs then I think he could have done well because Chiefs are a great team. They are a big team and they know what to do to bounce back and they will bounce back soon.”
