Pitso Mosimane has claimed that South Africans do not appreciate him as compared to the love he gets from outside the country.
Mosimane had eight hugely successful years in charge of Mamelodi Sundowns from 2012 to 2020, winning five league titles as well as the CAF Champions League, before joining Egyptian giants Al Ahly in 2020.
He worked with the Cairo Red Devils for two years, winning as many Champions League crowns, before leaving and later joining Saudi club Al Ahli, who he led back to the top flight at the first time of asking.
Pitso laments little love from South Africans
The veteran coach, who also handled SuperSport United and Bafana Bafana, says South Africans do not appreciate him more as he seems to receive plenty of love outside the country compared to back home.
“I think I am more appreciated a little bit outside than in my country but yes, I am loved in the country. You see every time I move around, people give respect and I am humbled,” Mosimane told SuperSport TV.
“It is the game of football that has given me that chance but in Egypt, it is another story and that is [Al Ahly] the biggest club, one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Why does Mosimane feel unappreciated

“Look, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are big in the country, we all know that but the coach of Orlando Pirates and Chiefs can pass [in town] and it is okay. In Egypt, if you coach Al Ahly, you don’t pass, they stop you and they treat you like God.”
After leaving Al Ahli, Mosimane worked at Al Wahda in the United Arab Emirates, Abha in Saudi Arabia with his last job at Esteghlal of Iran.
He has been linked to the vacant Orlando Pirates job alongside other candidates like Rulani Mokwena and Benni McCarthy.
