Former Kaizer Chiefs forward Lehlohonolo Majoro has expressed his aspirations in coaching, revealing that he has been pursuing coaching licenses to enhance his qualifications.
Having departed from AmaZulu FC at the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, Majoro has not yet formally announced his retirement from professional football.
Currently, he serves as one of the ambassadors for MTN during the ongoing top eight competition.
In an interview with iDiski Times, he was asked about his future plans following his exit from the KZN club last year.
He disclosed that he has been actively engaged in obtaining coaching badges. Majoro emphasised his desire to commence his coaching career at the grassroots level, aiming to develop young talent.
FORMER CHIEFS FORWARD LOOKING TO BEGIN COACHING CAREER
“At this point in time, as you can see…I’m the MTN8 Ambassador, I’ve been doing my coaching licences,” he told iDiski Times.
“I really want to share my experience with the up-and-coming generation – the challenges, the good and the bad, and I want to produce more Majoro’s, the 123 goals that our legends have scored.”
When asked about whether he had hung his boots, Majoro stated that it is a challenging decision to wake up and declare the end of his career, especially having been in football for over ten years.
MAJORO ON RETIREMENT – ‘I DON’T WANT TO BE RUSHED’
“Here’s a thing: Most people feel like it’s easy for you to say, ‘I’m done with football’. Just because I couldn’t get a contract extension, it doesn’t mean I can say I’m done with football,” he added.
“It’s not that easy, you cannot just abandon this beautiful game, this is the game that we all know, we have fallen into habits of doing what footballers do, waking up every morning and going to training.
“It takes 30 days for you to fall into a habit, what more about 10 years, what more about 12 years? So, I think people expect us to easily say, just because I couldn’t get a contract extension, I must wake up in the morning, and my age is in a certain age category where people say you are supposed to be retiring.
“I have no problem with that; everything comes to an end, but I don’t want to be rushed into saying the words that people want me to say.
“And I think, I’m not the only one who has been saying this, you’ve just mentioned some of my colleagues in football, who have also not mentioned if they are retiring or not. Cristiano Ronaldo just said he wants to score 1.000 goals in his career, but he’s only just reached 900 goals, no one is saying anything about that.”
