Kaizer Chiefs defender set for exit, close to completing next move

Published on by

A Kaizer Chiefs defender is reportedly on his way out of Naturena and is close to completing his next move to another DStv Premiership club.

The arrival of new leadership ahead of next season may prompt a rebuilding phase for the Soweto giants.

It is understood, Chiefs are in the closing stages of their search for a new coach who’ll be replacing Molefi Ntseki who was sacked by the club last year.

The club has not confirmed any departure or signing as of yet. However, they are expected to bid farewell to some of their players who will be out of contracts.

One of those is Njabulo Ngcobo, who, according to SABC Sport will leave the club as a free agent at the end of June.

WHICH CLUB NJABULO NGCOBO IS SET TO SIGN FOR?

The public broadcaster reported that the centre-back is close to finalising a switch to Sekhukhune United who are said to have offered him a long-term deal.

The agent of the player, Sboniso Ngubane was tight-lipped with the specifics but confirmed that they were negotiating with the Limpopo outfit.

“We are still negotiating with them,” Ngubane told SABC Sport.

Ngcobo's arrival at Chiefs was met with high expectations due to his stellar performances at Moroka Swallows between 2019 and 2020. However, his struggles in the Gold and Black shirt resulted in limited playing time.

This season, he made only 16 appearances across all competitions.

Sekhukhune are bolstering their defence amid rumours linking Edwin Gyimah and Daniel Cardoso with exit door.

OTHER PLAYERS WHO COULD DEPART CHIEFS THIS WINDOW

Itumeleng Khune

The 36-year-old shot-stopper was recently honoured for having served the club 25 years.

Chiefs announced last season that Khune signed a contract of “one final season” with the club. Despite this, the goalkeeper expressed his desire to continue playing.

Sekhukhune United are said to be interested in Khune and the future remains unclear.

Sifiso Hlanti

Last season, Chiefs gave Hlanti a one-year contract because they reportedly didn’t have many options in the left-back positions.

They are currently looking for the left-back to replace the 34-year-old. Hlanti has been with Chiefs since 2021 having signed from Moroka Swallows.

Siyethemba Sithebe

Like Ngcobo, the midfielder Sithebe struggled to meet expectations at Chiefs. Injuries further hampered his playing time.

However, towards the end of the season, he showed signs of improvement in the limited matches he played.

Efmamjjasond Gonzalez

Reports indicate Kaizer Chiefs signed Efmamjjasond Gonzalez on a loan deal last season, with an option to purchase him permanently. The club must now decide whether to exercise that option.

Based on current indications, it appears unlikely Gonzalez will stay.
