Kaizer Chiefs are struggling to finish in the Premier Soccer League’s top positions to stand a chance of playing in the CAF inter-club competition.
The Soweto giants are currently trailing joint leaders Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns by 17 points, though they have played two games less. Amakhosi have lost their last three PSL games in a row, which explains why getting the continental ticket might be a challenge.
They will be aiming at ending the unwanted run on Sunday against Durban City at the FNB Stadium.
Questions have been asked about co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef’s ability to guide the team. Some claim the duo has lost the dressing room. However, midfielder Lebohang Maboe insists the claims are baseless.
Kaizer Chiefs have just been unfortunate
“There is no such thing. There is absolutely no such thing [like coaches losing the dressing room],” he responded when asked about the allegations.

“These are our coaches. These are our leaders and for us as players we share the same goal which is helping the team to get points and winning each game.
“It’s just unfortunate. And I’m going to reiterate what my colleague has said that it’s unfortunate that the past three weeks have damaged the work that we have been doing for the past three, four months, to be quite honest with you.
“But this is a situation that we are faced with right now, and we are confident and working together that we are going to turn the corner,” the former Mamelodi Sundowns player added.
Big institute Kaizer Chiefs need results
The experienced, versatile midfielder has further explained why Amakhosi have no option but to deliver.

“This is a big institute, first. We are in a very big institute where it’s also results driven. You know we have to win games and I think we’ve just been unfortunate to be quite honest with you that we haven’t been getting the results that we actually deserve,” Maboe added.
“There are games where we created most chances, there are games where we didn’t convert the chances that we got.
“So I’d say we’re getting there, like we’re getting that winning mentality within the group. I’m confident that we are going to get there,” he concluded.
