Kaizer Chiefs did well in the goalkeeping department last season, thanks to the rise of their captain Brandon Petersen, who managed to keep 15 clean sheets in the Premier Soccer League to help his team finish third.
It was a massive relief for Amakhosi, who have struggled in the last couple of years to get a consistent shot-stopper to succeed Itumeleng Khune, who was let go three seasons ago.

Rwanda international Fiacre Ntwari was signed to bring stability, however, he failed to deliver as expected and was demoted to deputise Petersen, alongside Bruce Bvuma. A couple of days ago, Bvuma’s contract was reportedly extended by the Soweto giants.
Rumours have it that Ntwari might be either sold or loaned in the ongoing transfer window which will provide space for another goalkeeper. Renaldo Leaner has been linked with a move to the Glamour Boys.
Leaner, a free agent!
“Sekhukhune United Football Club confirms the departure of goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner following a non-renewal of his contract,” Babina Noko confirmed.
“Renaldo joined Babina Noko ahead of the 2023/24 season and served the club with distinction throughout his time with us. His performances and professionalism were rewarded with a call-up to the South African senior national team, a testament to his dedication and quality.
“The club extends its sincere gratitude for his commitment and contribution. We thank you, Renaldo,” they concluded.
Will Chiefs beat Sundowns and Pirates?
Leaner is one of the goalkeepers who are being chased by top teams in the Premier Soccer League. He managed to keep nine clean sheets in the South African top flight last season and was even called to Bafana Bafana by coach Hugo Broos.

Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly in the market for an experienced custodian and the 28-year-old ticks all the boxes. The current second-choice Denis Onyango is almost retiring and Ronwen Williams is aging as well explaining why Leaner might be a good signing.
If Ntwari leaves, it will be understandable for Chiefs to go for Leaner to increase competition. Bvuma has been inconsistent and fails to deliver when most needed.
