Has Jomo Sono hinted at what might be ailing Kaizer Chiefs?

Jomo Cosmos owner Jomo Sono has claimed Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, and other top Premier Soccer League teams’ squads might be influenced by their chairmen!

The South African football stakeholder was reacting to recent run in the Nedbank Cup where second-tier outfits Casric Stars and Milford FC have defied the odds to reach the semi-final of the annual competition.

Casric Stars, who beat Orlando Pirates in the Round of 16 and AmaZulu to reach the semis, will be up against Durban City in the last four on Saturday. Milford will have to get past TS Galaxy if they are to get in the final and stand a chance of representing Mzansi in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Sono, who is coaching his team as well, says it is good that Joseph ‘Bucs’ Mthombeni and Dr Xanti Pupuma are in charge of their own teams, before claiming a big number of teams in the PSL are controled by their chairmen.

Are Motaungs calling the shots at Kaizer Chiefs?

“You know, to be honest I don’t want to sound controversial,” Sono saidi in his interview with iDiski Times.

“But I must give them credit for being brave enough to stand there on the bench. You know the reality is that 80% of the clubs in the PSL, they are being coached by the Chairman.

“It’s not the coaches who are coaching you, even see with the phone calls we once saw on TV a coach, it’s not a coach. It’s the chairman telling the coach who to take off and who to put on.

“At least us and them, we’re brave enough to stand there, to face the consequences of success and failure at the same time.

“You know, and when you’re handling it, and it’s yours, you don’t have favouritism because sometimes with coaches there’s favouritism. There’s also an allegation that some of the coaches are taking money from players,” he concluded.
