Pirates legend names ideal replacements for sought-after Mofokeng and Appollis

With speculation linking both Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis with transfers away from Orlando Pirates, one of the club’s ex-players has singled out their perfect replacements.

Mofokeng’s future at Pirates has been the subject of rumours with a number of clubs linked with him and the latest is French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

Meanwhile, Appollis is also reported to be attracting interest from Europe after a great start to life at Pirates plus his impressive contributions in a Bafana Bafana shirt.

Former Pirates forward Lebohang Mokoena thinks Cape Town City youngster Emile Witbooi could make fans forget Mofokeng quickly as he is also capable of lighting up the Orlando Stadium as Rele has been doing.

Mofokeng’s ideal replacement identified

“I love the boy plus he is the young man of Surprise, you know, it is in the blood. You can tell he is in the blood. We have sung praises for the boy. The club does not want to release him, they are probably going to sell him for a huge amount because he is one for the future,” Mokoena said on SoccerBeat.

“He has got experience at international level coming with the U20, U17. He’s come through those structures and also he is a well-developed player so you are going to get something out of that player as he grows and matures.

“He’s come through those structures and also he is a well-developed player so you are going to get something out of that player as he grows and matures. So, a suitable replacement for Rele because Witbooi is also a player that if you also give him that free role, get into those spaces, he is very tricky, skillful he can score goals and crowd favourite.”

Who could fit into Appollis’ shoes at Pirates?

Mokoena then singled out who he thinks would suit Pirates if Appollis was to leave at the end of the season.

“Him [Witbooi] and [Siyanda] Ndlovu, if they [Pirates] can get those two, if maybe Rele has to leave and Appollis leaves, I don’t think the fans will even feel that they lost Rele or Appollis,” he further said, urging Pirates to go for the Golden Arrows winger to replace Appollis.

Ndlovu has been impressive for Manqoba Mngqithi’s team, scoring four goals and weighing in with seven assists in 25 games this season.
