When Nasreddine Nabi took over as Kaizer Chiefs coach at the beginning of the season, the fans were anticipating a swift turn of fortunes.
The Glamour Boys had finished the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League campaign in the 10th position, their worst-ever ending. The club went on to sign seven players for the former AS FAR Rabat coach. They signed goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, Rushwin Dortley, Bongani Sam – who is yet to make his competitive debut owing to an injury, Gaston Sirino, Miguel Inacio, Njabulo Blom, and Bradley Cross.
However, the Glamour Boys have not delivered as the supporters expected; they crashed from the Carling Knockout in the quarter-final before registering three wins, as many draws, and three losses as well in the nine PSL outings.
Nasreddine Nabi has since stated he needs players of Chiefs quality to help him get positive results consistently with the main focus on attack. Ranga Chivaviro, Ashley du Preez and Christian Saile have been guilty of missing many scoring chances. With the January transfer window a couple of days away, have a look at Nabi's dream wishlist.
Stanley Nwabali
Well, you might be wondering why the Nigeria goalkeeper is on the list. Ntwari has been shaky notwithstanding the team's inconsistent defenders. The Rwanda international alongside Brandon Petersen and Bruce Bvuma have failed to convince in goal, explaining why they have conceded in all league matches so far.
Nwabali has four clean sheets from nine PSL games already for Chippa United, and reports have it Chiefs are open to swapping Ntwari with the Super Eagles star.
Peter Shalulile
The Namibia international is now playing second fiddle to Iqraam Rayners owing to what looks like a lack of confidence in front of the goal. He has four goals in 20 outings across all competitions.
With his PSL experience and achievements including several Golden Boots, Nabi can't turn down a chance to work with Shalulile. But will the Chiefs management go all the way financially to convince Shasha to join the club?
Michael Olunga
The Kenya international has been consistently delivering for Qatar Stars League outfit Al-Duhail SC. He is their current all-time top scorer having scored more than 121 goals since joining the team in 2021. The Harambee Star has already scored nine goals and provided an assist in the 10 games played in the ongoing campaign.
The 30-year-old lanky striker has been linked to the Glamour Boys in the January transfer window. Surely, Nabi will enjoy having Olunga in his attacking department, but again, he is not cheap, something that might scare the management.
Percy Tau
Well, he is not an out-and-out striker but he can be convinced to join Amakhosi from Al Ahly who are not keen to retain him. The 30-year-old is ready for a new challenge after winning it all with the Red Devils.
He has extensive experience and can motivate the Amakhosi youngsters to glory. The Motaungs can convince the Lion of Judah to consider their project. Despite his limited time this season, Tau has still managed to score three goals and provide an assist in 12 appearances.
Fiston Mayele
Mayele was Nabi's primary target when he joined Kaizer Chiefs, but the Tunisian did not manage to get the Pyramids forward. He has since played 11 games for the Egyptian outfit across all competitions, scored five goals and provided an assist.
The Congolese is that one striker who has what it takes to help Amakhosi get goals regularly. Mayele is ready to join Chiefs, but Pyramids were reluctant to let him leave. It is up to the Chiefs management to convince the club to sell.
