Veteran PSL coach Dan Malesela feels Kaizer Chiefs must strengthen across defence, midfield and attack despite the club’s reluctance to sign new players this month.
Chiefs boss Bobby Motaung made it clear that the club will not be looking to go big in the transfer market this month as they feel satisfied with the business done in the off-season although he left a caveat that they would not pass up the chance if a top player was available.
However, former Marumo Gallants and Chippa United coach Malesela thinks the Glamour Boys are still behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in terms of quality and they need strengthening in key areas if they have to compete with the aforementioned duo.
Malesela not convinced by Flavio Silva

“Chiefs are likely to announce new signings soon. There’s a need for a backup player for Sibongiseni Mthethwa,” Malesela told KickOff.
“They also need to add variety to their wing options. I am uncertain about their new striker, Flavio Da Silva. Strikers can be difficult to find, and I understand that, but I haven’t seen consistent performance from him.”
The former Royal AM and TS Galaxy coach also feels the Chiefs defence need a remake if they want to avoid conceding cheap goals.
What other area needs strengthening?

“Additionally, addressing the centre-back position is important. Often, conceded goals stem from issues in this area,” he further said. “Inacio Miguel receives frequent bookings, which raises concerns about safety. A reliable backup is necessary, and Aiden McCarthy still needs to get acclimated to the PSL.
“Regarding Given Msimango, I understand that coaches sometimes have their own preferences. It’s possible he isn’t their first choice in training, but honestly, his partnership with McCarthy may not be my first option.
“At centre-back, leadership is crucial—someone to take charge and organise the defence. Vocality in the field helps ensure coordination. I am not entirely sure about how vocal Given is, but from our time at TS Galaxy, I know he is a quiet person. Having someone who can lead and organise is essential to a solid defensive unit.”
