Kekana wants Pirates star to win POTY Award! ‘There was no Bucs without him!’

The Premier Soccer League is about to conclude, despite some teams already playing all their games, with the organisers preparing for the Awards Gala.

No specific dates have been set yet owing to Mamelodi Sundowns' Caf Champions League final against Pyramids, which is coming in the next couple of days, as well as the expanded 2025 Fifa Club World Cup to be played in the United States from June 14 to July 13.

Lucas Ribeiro has been doing well for the 15-time champions, scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists in the 27 games he played. It explains why the majority of the stakeholders feel the South American deserves to win the Player of the Season Award.

However, former Masandawana captain Hlompho Kekana believes veteran Orlando Pirates midfielder Makhehleni Makhaula deserves it.

Makhaula deserves the Player of the Season Award!

He argues that the 35-year-old was the engine that efficiently ran, in the 31 domestic games he played across all competitions, to ensure the Buccaneers clicked in all departments.

“This [Makhaula] is my Player for the Season; there was no Pirates without this player, and I’ll tell you why, he gave them stability in the midfield,” he told SABC Sports' SoccerZone.

“Those who played in the midfield at the highest level, they’ll tell you that without this man Pirates were nowhere because he gave them stability. You know he was ready to do the dirty job for Orlando Pirates. There is no [Relebohile Mofokeng] without Makhaula.”

The Sea Robbers have so far played 26 league games this season and secured 59 points in the process. They will end their league campaign with the away game against AmaZulu before playing Magesi FC at the Orlando Stadium.
