Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has revealed a special connection with Bafana Bafana and Al Ahly star Percy Tau, sharing a message of support for the Al Ahly forward.

Kompany coached Tau during their time together at RSC Anderlecht in the Belgian Pro League, before Tau's move to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Speaking to SABC Sport during a press conference following their 2-1 defeat to FSV Mainz 05 at the Mewa Arena in Germany, Kompany emphasised the importance of coaches maintaining an interest in the careers of their former players.

VINCENT KOMPANY ON PERCY TAU RELATIONSHIP

“I think my colleague will be able to understand when I'm saying, we always keep a bond with our players, and Percy Tau, of course, I understood already when I was coaching him, how big of a star he was in South Africa, so I understand for you it's an important question,” said Kompany.

“But all I can say is [that] I hope he does well in the next few years, and he did really well for me, so I wish him the best, and for today I don't think I can say much more.”

Kompany also coached another Bafana star in Lyle Foster at Burnley FC both last season in the Premier League and in the second round of 2022/23 campaign in the Championship.
