Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau has been admitted to hospital after falling ill.
Tau has been absent from training for the last two days and the Egyptian giants have now confirmed that the player is suffering from a severe bowel deflation and abdominal pains.
It means Tau is doubtful for Al Ahly’s CAF Champions League match against CR Belouizdad in Cairo on Sunday, having been involved in their last match against Orlando Pirates on December 7.
Tau has played sparingly for Al Ahly
He also played as a substitute in their Intercontinental Cup loss to Mexican side Pachua last Saturday when they lost 6-5 on post-match penalties following a goalless draw in regulation time.
Tau has made 12 appearances for Al Ahly this season, scoring 12 goals, although his playing time has been limited due to the ongoing saga over his future.
Tau is currently locked in a tussle with Al Ahly as the club has tried to offload him without success so far, having expressed a desire to terminate his contract before it expires in June 2025.
Bafana forward’s future uncertain
Al Ahly are believed to have tabled an offer of $300,000 to terminate his deal midway through the season but the player has turned it down, insisting on the full payment of $600,000 before a parting of ways.
Tau joined Al Ahly in 2021 after his unsuccessful stint at Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion and signed a four-year deal believed to be worth $1.2 million per year.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns winger has won two league titles and as many Champions League crowns during his time with the Cairo giants.
