Mamelodi Sundowns Transfer News: Winger unveiled in Europe

Mamelodi Sundowns have finally confirmed the exit of Bafana Bafana international winger Thapelo Maseko to Danish outfit FC Copenhagen.

The 22-year-old has been pushing for an exit from Masandawana in search of regular football. However, the Brazilians were not keen to let him leave cheaply since they wanted profits.

Despite his heroics in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which saw South Africa reach the knockout phase for the first time in their history, Maseko was still deemed surplus to requirements at Sundowns. There were no guarantees that he would be given the freedom to play as he pleased after returning from AEL Limassol, where he was on loan.

The involved parties have now reached a mutual agreement, with both Sundowns and FC Copenhagen confirming the deal.

Maseko in Europe!

“A chapter in Yellow comes to a close. We appreciate everything you brought to the club and wish you all the best for the next chapter,” the Sundowns media team confirmed.

“F.C. Copenhagen are delighted to announce the signing of South Africa international Thapelo Maseko,” the Danish team confirmed.

“The 22-year-old moves to Copenhagen from Mamelodi Sundowns on a four-year contract, arriving in the Danish capital on the back of impressive performances in South African football.

“He has established himself as a key player for Mamelodi Sundowns while also making his mark on the South Africa national team, where he recently scored the winning goal against South Korea during this summer’s World Cup.

“Maseko is a left-footed winger who possesses a direct playing style and exceptional speed,” they added.

Maseko delighted a dream has been realised

The attacker, who will wear the No. 12 jersey, is determined to deliver for his new team following the move.

“I am very proud of this agreement. It is a dream come true. To me, F.C. Copenhagen are a very special club,” he said during his unveiling.

“They are a club that is highly recognised internationally, and Zuma has told me so many great things about the club, the fans, and the city. I am looking forward to experiencing it all myself,” says Maseko.

“I am truly honored to get this opportunity, and it fills me with hunger and ambition. I have come here to make a difference and leave my mark on the club. I have big ambitions for the club and on a personal level.

“I come here to win, and I am very excited to get out on the pitch and give everything I’ve got,” Maseko concluded.
