European club in talks to land Maseko

Mamelodi Sundowns winger Thapelo Maseko’s next destination is becoming clearer following reports that a European club is in talks to land him.

Maseko’s future has been up in the air since he returned from the World Cup with Bafana Bafana, having spent the second half of last season on loan in Cyprus.

Now, according to SABC journalist Mazola Molefe, Maseko is moving towards a transfer to Denmark with FC Copenhagen in talks to secure his services.

“Talks are going now officially between FC Copenhagen in Denmark and Mamelodi Sundowns for Thapelo Maseko to leave either on a permanent basis or on a loan basis with an obligation to buy,” Molefe said on SABC’s Soccerzone.

Former teammate backs Ndlovu to thrive

Golden Arrows forward Nduduzo Moli has tipped Siyanda Ndlovu to make a success of his move to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Ndlovu completed a surprise switch to Masandawana during the current transfer window after appearing destined for Orlando Pirates, who were beaten to his signature in one of the window’s biggest twists.

Moli, who played alongside Ndlovu at Abafana Bes’thende, believes his former teammate’s willingness to learn sets him apart.

“He’s easily teachable, and he asks a lot about what can help him to get better,” Moli told iDiski Times. “He’s a fast learner and I believe that even at Sundowns, he will gel with other teammates,” Moli added.

CAF Super Cup advantage for Mamelodi Sundowns

Meanwhile, Sundowns have received a major boost with confirmation that they will host the CAF Super Cup in Tshwane on Sunday, November 8.

The Brazilians, who won the CAF Champions League last season, will face Confederation Cup winners USM Alger in the showpiece fixture, with the added advantage of home-ground advantage after the match was moved away from the neutral Middle Eastern venues used in recent years.

Sundowns have history in the fixture, having lifted the trophy back in 2017 when they defeated TP Mazembe 1-0 at home thanks to a late Ricardo Nascimento penalty. It will be the fourth time a South African club has featured in the Super Cup, following Orlando Pirates’ victory over JS Kabylie in 1996 and Kaizer Chiefs’ defeat to Al Ahly in 2002.

 A victory would take South Africa’s all-time tally to three wins, putting the country joint-third alongside Tunisia and DR Congo. There is also a significant financial incentive, with $500,000 (R8 million) in prize money on offer for the winners.
