Pitso deserved MOTM Award

“I picked him on my shoulder, I took him in front of the fans, because he deserved to be carried by me because he carried us also towards the result we needed.”

Barker opens up about facing ex-Sundowns coach

Steve Barker says he is relishing the prospect of facing fellow South African Manqoba Mngqithi when Simba SC take on Young Africans in Wednesday’s Community Shield clash.

The highly anticipated Kariakoo Derby takes place this week in what is the first piece of silverware of the new Tanzanian season at stake.

“I know coach Mngqithi very well. We’ve had many occasions where we’ve played against each other. He’s a well-schooled, well-educated and successful coach from South Africa,” the 58-year-old told Pan African Football..

“The derby is already a big match between two big Tanzanian giants of football. To have the element of two South Africans coming up against one another just adds more spice to the match,” he added.

Barker also suggested that Mngqithi is under pressure after Yanga’s heavy investment in the transfer window.

“I do believe coach Mngqithi and his coaching staff are under some immense pressure in terms of the amount of resources that were spent in this window to achieve success,” the former Stellenbosch coach added.
