Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso is delighted that he has responded to his doubters in the most emphatic of fashions.

The Portuguese coach’s future at Sundowns became uncertain in late 2025 and early this year as his team failed to impress on the pitch but he has turned it around as they are now in prime position in the PSL and in the CAF Champions League final for the second straight year.

“It’s clear that people say ‘we’ didn’t know whether I would stay, but ‘we’ knew that I would stay – myself, the assistants, the management, the club and the players. The ones who wanted me out are probably the ones who (don’t) have the power to decide whether I go or stay,” he said after the match as per The Star.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has become the second tactician to make it to three straight CAF Champions League finals.

Cardoso guided Sundowns to a second straight final after beating his ex-club Esperance 2-0 on aggregate on Saturday. Having guided the Tunisian side to the 2024 final, Cardoso, who led Sundowns to the 2025 final, has now equalled Pitso Mosimane’s record.

Mosimane led Egyptian giants Al Ahly to the 2020, 2021 and 2022 finals, winning the first two, but Cardoso lost in 2024 as well as 2025 and will be looking to get over the line in 2026.
