McCarthy warned against being too comfortable at Chiefs – ‘He has held his ground, but…’

Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy has been tipped by his father, Fabian McCarthy, to hit greater levels at the club.

Since getting promoted, the 21-year-old has not looked back, always delivering to his best and stopping experienced attackers from getting past him. In the ongoing campaign, he has played six games across all competitions.

In his recent interview, the former South Africa international has lauded his son for the maturity he has shown. He has further stated that the youngster is already better than him, owing to his exploits at the Glamour Boys.

McCarthy senior is assured that with discipline and determination, every achievement will be unlocked.

He has to prove himself as often as he can

“He has been training with the senior team for the past three seasons, and during that time, he has held his ground. He is doing really well, and now it is just a matter of consistency, working hard each and every day,” he said as quoted by SABC Sport.

“I said to coach Ernst Middendorp three years ago that I believe he is better than I was. He grew up in a solid structure, and now the only thing for him is to prove himself as often as he can.

“I never forced anything onto Aden. From the beginning, this has been his choice and his career,” McCarthy concluded.

In recent games, the Kaizer Chiefs technical team has been preferring Zitha Kwinika over Aden McCarthy. It is just a message to the other players that they have to work harder to sustain their positions in the team.

Rushwin Dortley and Given Msimango are the other centre-backs in the team, which makes the next couple of months interesting.
