Mohafe on Appollis’ mental health after failed move to Chiefs & Co.

South Africa international Oswin Appollis was being chased by top teams after his exploits for Polokwane City last season.

The winger was also part of the Bafana Bafana squad that played in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where they reached the semi-final and eventually finished third.

Teams from North Africa, Kaizer Chiefs, and Mamelodi Sundowns were the teams aiming at signing the 23-year-old but the deal fell through.

Appollis not affected after failing to leave Chiefs

The winger was part of the Polokwane squad that fell 3-0 against Orlando Pirates on Tuesday night. Rise and Shine coach Phuti Mohafe has now explained how Appollis is fairing after the failed move.

“With the speculation of Appollis dragging up until the last hours or minutes of the window, that I don't have power over, so I can't say much about it,” the tactician stated.

“I think it hasn't affected him much psychologically, because he knows he has a contract with Polokwane City, where he has to provide and produce good performances every day that he plays.”

Polokwane resigned to losing Appollis?

Most probably, some teams will be hoping to sign the South Africa attacker in the January transfer window or at the end of the season.

Mohafe has now urged Appollis to continue delivering for Polokwane and ensure he retains his value.

“For him to give those guys [a reason] to still be persisting with him, he should [keep] giving good performances, and for him to remain in the national team, he has to still give good performances for the club, which is Polokwane City.”

Appollis is part of the Bafana Bafana provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers against Congo scheduled for October.
