Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi may have won the Nedbank Cup but for him, that is not the main goal.
Nabi guided Chiefs to a first trophy in 10 years when they beat bitter rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the final at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday to end a difficult season with silverware.
However, the veteran coach feels he is still far away from achieving what he wants and has promised to ensure he returns the club to where it belongs before he leaves.
“Very happy for the fans, chairman Dr Motaung and the family, and players,” Nabi told SABC after the match.
What has Nabi promised Chiefs supporters?
“For me, it is the process, the process will help us. I will build this team and when I finish, I will go home,” he added regarding his desire to revive the club’s fortunes.
Nabi then went into details over how his team weathered the storm before recording the memorable win.
Chiefs had gone ahead through Gaston Sirino’s 10th minute penalty before Evidence Makgopa equalised seven minutes later and substitutes Ashely Du Preez and Mduduzi Shabalala then combined to set up Yusuf Maart to score the winner 10 minutes from time.
“We went through a lot of difficult moments especially after Pirates equalised because we felt we were losing control of the game and they took advantage of that,” Nabi further said.

“At halftime, we tried to correct that by repositioning our players better and to have a better timing in our pressing but we felt when we did our substitution with Ox [Sibongiseni Mthethwa], Shabalala and Ashely, it gave us more balance and confidence to go forward and score a second goal.”
The Chiefs coach now wants his team to finish the season with flourish in their final two league games to secure a spot in the top eight.
“We celebrate for two days but Monday, we go back to work because we have two tough games against Sekhukhune and Polokwane and we need to get into the top eight at the end of the season,” said the Tunisian coach.
