Nasreddine Nabi's Kaizer Chiefs were defeated 1-0 by SuperSport United on Saturday evening at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Despite being the dangerous team for the better part of the game, the Glamour Boys were undone by Tashreeq Morris' first-half strike after a swift counterattack by the Swanky Boys. It was just their second win in the Premier Soccer League in six outings.
The Glamour Boys were keen on bouncing back from the initial loss against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the league.
Winning the Carling Knockout's Round of 16 fixture was a motivation for Amakhosi, but determined SuperSport United ensured they secured a vital win.
Nabi angry with the youngsters?
Coach Nabi now feels his youngsters let the team down by failing to take their chances in a crucial game.
“It’s a game we controlled practically the whole game, unfortunately, we created many opportunities but we couldn’t score and the opponent had only one opportunity and they scored it,” he said after the match.
Our young players need to understand to win a football game you need to put the ball in the net but we believe that it’s a lesson, even if it’s a tough one, we hope we can do better.
“We believe that the mentality was good, was positive even after conceding the goal, they switched on, we pressed, we pushed hard, especially in the second half. We played higher, put numbers in the box, took shots, made crosses, we believed we could change the game, we want that kind of mentality.”
The next assignment will be on Saturday against Sundowns in the Carling Knockout quarter-final outing.
