Casric Stars have been eliminated from the Nedbank Cup after falling to Durban City in the semi-final on Saturday afternoon at Chatsworth Stadium.

The second-tier outfit had a good run to the last four, having beaten favorites Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu in the last two hurdles to set up a date with the Citizens.

Durban City beat Uprington City and Golden Arrows to get into the latter stage of the annual domestic competition.

Durban City started the game on a high, pinning Casric Stars in their half as they showed the quality expected from a team competing in the Premier Soccer League.

A nervy start by the second-tier outfit contributed to the own goal by Siphamandla Mlilo following a delivery from Terrence Mashego.

Despite the fight-back in the second half, it was Durban who made it to the final where they will play either TS Galaxy or Milford who will be playing each other on Sunday.

TS Galaxy wary of Milford FC threat

Meanwhile, TS Galaxy coach Adnan Begovic is not keen on reaching the penalty shootout with Milford in the second semi-final this weekend.

“You know how we have enough time to prepare for our next game, it will be tough but we also need to be ready for scenario A, B and C,” he told the media.

“We also need to have a game plan for extra time, and a game plan for penalties, and we will prepare our team for everything – we can’t allow something to happen that we didn’t prepare for because we are a professional club and we do everything properly.

“It’s important how we’ve played all our three Nedbank Cup games since the beginning – Marumo Gallants, Mamelodi Sundowns and the third game against Jacksa Spears. We scored goals and we protected our goals properly, and I think we showed our quality and ability, that we can play good games, especially in the cup.

“And when we play for a result, obviously in the cup, we need to play and manage everything properly,” he concluded.

Holders Kaizer Chiefs were eliminated in the Round of 32, meaning a new winner, who will represent South Africa in CAF Confederation Cup, is guaranteed.
