The 2025/26 Nedbank Cup saw the big dogs get eliminated in the two initial phases (Round of 32 and the Round of 16).
Defending champions Kaizer Chiefs were eliminated by Stellenbosch in their first hurdle. Then Mamelodi Sundowns fell to TS Galaxy in the Round of 16, while Orlando Pirates suffered a shock defeat against second-tier side Casric Stars.
A new winner is now guaranteed outside South Africa’s big three.

What’s at Stake?
The qualification phase is a golden opportunity for smaller clubs to dream big. Every season, the Nedbank Cup delivers unforgettable giant-killing stories, and this year promises more drama as teams from the ABC Motsepe League and other lower tiers aim to upset the odds.
The winner will have a massive opportunity to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Interestingly, only two Premier Soccer League teams are in the last four of the annual competition, with TS Galaxy in the mix alongside Durban City. Second-tier outfits Casric Stars and Milford FC hope to deliver the trophy as well.
