Nkota breaks silence over Saudi transfer as he makes big promise to Pirates fans

Outgoing Orlando Pirates winger Mohau Nkota has opened up over his move to Saudi Club Al Ettifaq.

Nkota has secured a surprise big-money move to the cash-rich club, becoming the first South African side to play in the lucrative Saudi Pro League and has reportedly agreed a deal until 2028.

The 20-year-old has played just one season in the PSL but that was already enough for Ettifaq to bring him on board and he is set to begin a new chapter in his career in Saudi Arabia.

Reflecting on the move, Nkota says he is not getting weighed down by the pressure of expectations following the giant transfer.

What has Mohau Nkota promised Pirates fans?

“I feel so special I don’t think it is pressure on me, it is just to go there and work and be the person I am. Do what I have been doing,” Nkota said on Mike Morton Talks Football.

Nkota admits he will miss his ‘Cocomelon’ partner Relebohile Mofokeng but has also paid glowing tributes to Pirates fans who took him to heart when he was promoted to the senior team.

“I will miss them (fans) how they shout my name when I play at Orlando Stadium. Thanks to the Orlando Pirates fans for being there for me and supporting me. I know I just played one season but I am going to miss you and shine for you on the other side,” he added.

Nkota, who has earned high praise for his ability to adapt to any situation and scoring from impossible angles, is not worried that a move to Saudi might affect his chances of playing for Bafana Bafana.

“I was given a chance [Bafana Bafana] against Mozambique and I delivered two assists so it is up to the coach. I am going out there to work and make sure I deliver,” he said.

Nkota made his senior debut for Pirates last September and leaves after playing 39 games, scoring seven goals and providing five assists.
