AFCON 2025: Onyango saves Uganda against Tanzania in dramatic Group C match

Published on by

Uganda and Tanzania played out a tense 1-1 draw in their Africa Cup of Nations Group C clash in Rabat, with 40-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns veteran Denis Onyango standing tall in goal for the Cranes.

Tanzania struck first in the 59th minute when Simon Msuva converted from the spot after a handball in the box, putting them on course for a historic first AFCON win. But Uganda hit back late as Uche Ikpeazu’s diving header leveled matters.

The drama didn’t end there, Uganda earned a penalty in the dying moments, only for Allan Okello to blaze his effort over the bar, leaving both sides with their first point of the tournament after opening defeats to Tunisia and Nigeria.

Group C remains wide open, with Tunisia and Nigeria set to clash later in Fes.
