Orlando Pirates Transfer: Buccaneers closing in on Stellenbosch midfielder

Published on by

Orlando Pirates are reportedly close to signing midfielder Sihle Nduli who is coming to the end of his contract at Stellenbosch FC.

The central midfielder has been on the radar of the Soweto giants this season with his impressive performances both in the PSL and CAF Confederation Cup as Stellies went on to reach the semi-final.

However, with his contract coming to an end, Stellies are set to lose out on a star player again with the 29-year-old looking to continue his career at Orlando Stadium.

According to iDiski Times, Nduli has reached a verbal agreement with Pirates to join them at the end of the season, bringing an end to his three-year stay in the Cape Winelands.

Nduli was heavily linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs at the end of last season as Stellenbosch lost a number of star players but a transfer did not materialise and it is Pirates who are now set to benefit without paying a fee.

An ever-present figure for Steve Barker’s team, the midfielder has made 41 appearances for Stellies this season and scored one goal in their 1-0 win over Zamalek that took them to the Confederation Cup semi-final before they lost out to Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC of Tanzania.

He rose to prominence at Stellenbosch following the departure of Sibongiseni Mthethwa to Chiefs in September 2023 and has so far made 101 appearances for the club while scoring two goals.

His arrival at Pirates would add competition to central midfield where Thalente Mbatha and Makhehlene Makhaula have been the most preferred duo in front of the defence by outgoing coach Jose Riveiro.
