Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau has ignited talk of a possible transfer back to South Africa after being spotted attending a PSL match.
Tau, whose deal with Qatar SC expires in June, could soon be a free agent as his six-month spell was not a resounding success, a scenario that could open up opportunities for South African clubs to sign him.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly forward fueled excitement about a return back home when he was in the stands at Orlando Stadium as Orlando Pirates drew 1-1 with Magesi FC in their final league match of the season on Wednesday.
Tau watched the game and then stayed on after to mingle with fans and players while he also had a chat with outgoing Pirates captain Innocent Maela who bid farewell to the club’s supporters after playing his final game.
Where will Percy Tau play next?
The Lion of Judah’s future in Qatar is still uncertain as he was signed on a six-month deal with an option to extend for a further year but only if he did well.
However, he managed four assists in nine matches, which could be deemed not good enough for an extended stay on his big-money contract, leaving him exploring other options.
Pirates have, however, not been credited with an interest in Tau unlike rivals Kaizer Chiefs, who were rumoured to be monitoring his situation when he fell out of favour at Al Ahly before he chose Qatar SC in January this year.
Tau could also opt to remain in the Gulf or return to Egypt where Zamalek have been reported to be interested.
