Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos saw his team draw 0-0 with Tanzania before beating Mozambique 2-0 in the recent international friendly matches staged in Mzansi.
Against Os Mambas, South Africa struck through the Orlando Pirates-linked duo Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Ashley Cupido. It was a great result for the Belgian who did not have Mamelodi Sundowns players in his squad owing to the club engagements.
Broos was impressed with the display by Kwayiba and has even made a bold claim that the Chippa United midfielder has what it takes to replace Themba Zwane. The veteran Masandawana skipper has not played for Bafana Bafana since October when he injured himself against Congo in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Kwayiba has a totally different style
“I have to be honest and say until now we have not found a second Themba, that type of player. But maybe we can solve it in another way. That’s something we wanted to see in these two games. We can solve it otherwise. Do we have to look? For the moment, we didn’t find a second Themba,” Broos told the media.

“But who can assure that Themba will be ready in September [when the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers resume]? So we have to look for other solutions, and we will see if we can solve the problem by playing in a different way.
“You can always say there and there, you have to be a little bit better. The only thing I can say as an example, against Mozambique, is that Kwayiba has a totally different style of play than Themba [Zwane], even if they play the same position,” he concluded.
