South Africa U20 goalkeeper Fletcher Smythe-Lowe inspired Amajiita to their maiden U20 Africa Cup of Nations recently concluded in Egypt.
The teenager pulled fantastic saves to win the Goalkeeper of the Tournament as well as make the Best XI of the competition. The 18-year-old Portuguese-based custodian is hoping to play in the Premier Soccer League.
Smythe-Lowe believes he can deliver for Kaizer Chiefs, who have been struggling for consistency in the goalkeeping department. Fiacre Ntwari, Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen have not been doing well for Amakhosi.

Currently, he might not be of much help, but he can be a long-term solution for the Glamour Boys once he comes of age.
‘It is important for me to work hard'
“I supported Chiefs when I was younger, and it's a possibility [that I might play for them] in the future,” he opened up to the media.
“I left SA during the 2020 [Covid-19] pandemic when my mom had a sabbatical, so we decided to go [to Portugal] for a year and see if it'd work for us because we had been there in the past. I was playing for Ubuntu in Cape Town.

“To be honest when I left, I wasn't thinking about professional football…I was just thinking about what's best for me and my family and then obviously, if you put in the work, opportunities come. I didn't really have this [playing professional football] in mind.
“For me, now, is to go back home to Portugal and rest for a week or two. It's always a possibility [to join big clubs], but I am only 18, so I have time to work hard and see where the future takes me. I need to work hard, stay humble because I want to play in the World Cup,” Smythe-Lowe concluded.
