Orlando Pirates forward Relebohile Mofokeng has spoken for the first time about his desire to play overseas.
Mofokeng has been linked with transfers abroad since 2024 but none is yet to materialise. Despite his immense talents and contributions to Pirates, Mofokeng has watched Mohau Nkkota and Mbekezeli Mbokazi come from behind to seal lucrative transfers overseas.
Now, the 21-year-old admits he also desires to further his career out of South Africa and hopes his contribution for Bafana Bafana at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations can accelerate a move abroad.
Rele open to transfer abroad soon
“I think if something can be available for me, I can get the chance somewhere in another country,” Mofokeng said on Saturday. “I think it will be a very good move. This tournament is very important. When I get a chance, I’ll just have to grab it.”
Mofokeng is hoping to make the starting XI for Sunday’s cracking game against Cameroon as South Africa look to make it to the quarter-final.
The fleetfooted forward believes mental strength will make all the difference during the highly-awaited clash at the El Medina Stadium in Rabat.
“The most important thing is mentality. Even if a person is bigger, the mentality matters the most because if I tell myself that I’m going to get past this guy, I’m going to do it,” he added.

Mofokeng has been a key player for Pirates since being promoted to the senior team by ex-coach Jose Riveiro in the 2023-24 season.
He was Pirates’ leading scorer last season with 12 goals and 15 assists, getting named the PSL Young Player of the Year, but he has started the 2025-26 campaign slow with injuries also hampering him.
As he heads into the second half of the season while the January transfer window is also open, his name will pop up again in relation to a move away from Pirates.
