‘Maybe Mofokeng will go to Spain!’ Bafana Bafana star lauded after winner in Carling Knockout final

Orlando Pirates attacker Relebohile Mofokeng has been tipped to leave the Soweto giants for a better team abroad.

The 21-year-old has been outstanding for the Sea Robbers since getting his debut under the then coach Jose Riveiro. It explains why he has also been drafted into the Bafana Bafana team preparing for the forthcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be staged in Morocco.

Last weekend, Mofokeng was on target as the Buccaneers claimed a 1-0 win over Marumo Gallants to win the Carling Knockout.

It was Pirates’ second trophy in a couple of months after the MTN8 triumph three months ago.

Will Mofokeng finally get his wish of playing abroad?

Mofokeng has been linked regularly with a move abroad, where teams in Belgium, England, Spain, among others are closely monitoring his progress. Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye is convinced that will happen sooner.

“Let me not be jealous, a round of applause for Orlando Pirates this is not pap and vleis because one Ouaddou stepped into the big shoes of Jose Riveiro,” he told iDiski TV.

“He has been able to get the best out of other players. I know I said Marumo would win but I expected the game to go to extra time. What we should complement Pirates on is that even if you don’t play well sometimes you win games without playing well. You need character.

“You need players who will raise their hands like Rele. Well done to the boy, if it was someone else, they would have probably not been able to handle this. The boy waited for his time and he stood out. I think big things are coming for the boy, maybe he’ll go to Spain,” Khanye concluded.

Recently, Mohau Nkota and Mbekezeli Mbokazi have left Bucs for greener pastures overseas.
