Reward for performance! Chiefs player called by national team after recent exploits

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs are seemingly past their recent dark days, owing to the good results they have been posting across all competitions.

On Tuesday, they beat Orbit College 4-1 in the Premier Soccer League to go third in the log with 22 points, the same as second-placed rivals Orlando Pirates who have a better goal difference, and three points off Mamelodi Sundowns, who are at the top, having played more games.

It is a massive confidence-booster for the Glamour Boys, who are also doing well on the continent as they will be among the teams in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.

The FIFA international break is barely days away and national teams will be playing friendly matches. Some will be preparing for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations while others will be strengthening their squads for future tournaments.

In-form striker gets a national team call-up

Chiefs have struggled to produce players for the national team owing to their initial struggles. Mduduzi Shabalala, who scored a brace against Orbit College, is among the players who have been called by coach Hugo Broos for the friendly game against Zambia.

Flavio da Silva, who has been doing well for Amakhosi having scored four goals in the five outings for the Soweto giants, has also made the cut for Guinea Bissau who will play Angola as confirmed by the club's co-coach Cedric Kaze.

“About the players that are going to the national team, Flavio Silva also got a call-up from the national team. They play a friendly game against Angola, I believe. He has been called up. It’s very good for him, for the team. And he’s a player who is getting his confidence back. He’s in a good moment,” he told the media.

If Chiefs continue with their run consistently, more players will surely represent their respective national teams in the forthcoming matches.
