Safa President Danny Jordaan has been arrested for alleged fraud and money embezzlement in the federation.

The 73-year-old was arrested on Wednesday morning and he is currently being processed in the Palm Ridge magistrate's court.

Hawks officers conducted a five-hour raid in the Safa offices and confiscated some vital items which included laptops, documents, USBs, and external hard drives to help them in their case.

It is claimed that Jordan has been using the Federation's resources between 2014 and 2018 for personal gain. He has been accused further of misappropriation of Safa monies totaling to R1.3 million.

Who has been arrested alongside Jordaan?

“South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan has been arrested and charged with fraud after allegedly spending R1.3 million of the association's money for his personal benefit,” News24 reported.

“Jordaan and his two co-accused, SAFA chief financial officer Gronie Hluyo and journalist-turned-businessman Trevor Neethling, are set to appear in the Specialized Commercial Crime Court in Palm Ridge on Wednesday.”

Hawks spokesperson has further explained why he wanted Jordaan to be arrested alongside the 46-year-old businessman.

“The allegations are that between 2014 and 2018, the president of Safa used the organization's resources for his personal gain including hiring a private security company for his personal protection, a Public Relations company without authorization from the Safa Board,” he said quoted by the Sowetan.

On March 8, Safa offices were searched by Hawks officers in search of evidence to charge Jordaan but they did not get any tangible material. It is interesting to see what they have to pin on the veteran administrator who wanted to run for the fourth term as the Safa head.
