‘Shabalala better than Lorch who is older than Zwane? Wow Broos! Chiefs players called to avoid unnecessary noise’

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has confirmed his preliminary 55-man squad for the forthcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be played in Morocco from December 21 to January 18.

As expected, Orlando Pirates dominated the list alongside Mamelodi Sundowns with Kaizer Chiefs also producing four. But while Thembinkosi Lorch was overlooked despite his form, Themba Zwane, who has been struggling with injuries, made the team.

These are the reactions from Mzansi as sampled by Afrik-Foot.

Broos said Lorch is old but Zwane is there

Meaning Mduduzi Shabalala is better than Thembinkosi Lorch? Wow! Hugo Broos –  Senkosi EighteenSomthing Weja

The question is, can Shabalala bench Oswin Appollis, Tshepang Moremi, Relebohile Mofokeng, or will he watch it like Brandon Peterson and Cross will on TV? –  Mpho Da Emgee

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos once said Thembinkosi Lorch is old, but Themba Zwane is there – Sipho Nkwanyana

I so wish Broos could replace the injured and off-form Patrick Maswanganyi with Thembinkosi Lorch. Instead of Ashley Cupido, if he can call Bradley Grobler. Instead of the currently injured Malibongwe Khoza, if he can call Keanu Cupido – Khula Sande

Those who are asking about Thembinkosi Lorch can start their own team and call him – Known AS Thabiso

Broos needs Zwane to play just one game

My Goat Mshishi will make it to the AFCON despite not playing because of an injury. He will beat the ones who were playing week in, week out for their clubs. The real G.O.A.T! – Smashis Mngomeni

It took me a long time to see Relebohile Mofokeng’s name. Now I can breathe alright – Bodak Blu

Kaizer Chiefs fans, please don’t get excited, it’s a preliminary squad, this means the final squad is coming – Mongezi Samora Xhakaza

What’s funny is that Broos only needs Zwane to play one game, just one, even if it’s not 90 minutes for him to include him in the final squad – Cornelius VikelaMbuso Zulu
