Bafana Bafana versatile midfielder Sipho Mbule has now revealed Kaizer Chiefs were keen on signing him at the beginning of the 2025/26 season.
‘Master Chef’ as he is commonly being referred to by football lovers in Mzansi, was let go by Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2024/25 season. He had struggled to cement a starting berth at the club before being loaned to Sekhukhune United but was let go owing to alleged disciplinary issues.

Mbule was linked to some top teams both in and out of South Africa. The Soweto giants, Bucs and Amakhosi, were also listed as the favourites with reports even indicating that the Glamour Boys have won the race for the services of the talented star.
Eventually, the Sea Robbers snapped him up for season, then let him go at the end of the end of the campaign. Abdeslam Ouaddou’s men won the MTN8, Carling Knockout and the Premier Soccer League crown.

In his interview with the Bucs documentary, Mbule explained how Rulani Mokwena convinced him to join the Buccaneers.
Firstly, my contract with Sundowns ended. There’s other teams also that wanted to sign me,” the 28-year-old revealed.
“Even Chiefs approached me. The people and coaches that I spoke to like coach Rulani told me that the best team to join is Pirates because I think there was an opportunity for him to make a comeback [to the team],” Mbule concluded.

After Pirates opted against extending Mbule’s deal, the midfielder left for Iraq where he is currently contracted to Zakho SC.
