‘Sirino is a threat but…’ – Kekana hints how he will stop Chiefs star

Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns will make a trip to the FNB Stadium to play rejuvenated Kaizer Chiefs.

The Glamour Boys are in high spirits after winning their first two games of the new campaign for the first time in five years. However, they will be playing against a team they have not beaten since April 2021 across all competitions.

Former Downs creative midfielder Gaston Sirino is among the new players who were signed by the Soweto Giants. The 33-year-old has already managed to score a goal and provide two assists in the two matches he has played donning the Amakhosi jersey.

Sirino is threatening but…

Bafana Bafana international Grant Kekana has conceded the South American is among the most dangerous players but claimed he knows the midfielder's strengths, meaning he will know how to deal with him.

“[Sirino] is very threatening, I played with Gaston for a number of seasons, and we understand his strengths,” he said ahead of the match.

“[Ranga] Chivaviro is also doing well for them, and the young boy [Mduduzi] Shabalala is also doing well for them, so I think they're looking threatening going forward.

“We want to try and nullify their attacks, which is something we'll plan around, and hopefully we get to do the job properly on Saturday.”

Chiefs against Sundowns, who will win?

“For us, on Saturday we understand the team that makes the least mistakes will definitely win the game, so for us, it's to try and minimise the mistakes that we make, but also counter the mistakes that they make,” Kekana added.

“We obviously also need to apply ourselves, and it's good that our strikers are scoring goals and finding the net now.

“I think when we started the season, we were creating so many chances and not scoring, so it's good that they persevered to start scoring, and we wish that it continues.”
