The league organisers are reportedly in talks to find a new sponsor
The PSL is reportedly on the hunt for new title sponsors following uncertainty over the future of DStv.
As per SABC, the PSL is in advanced talks to replace DStv as title sponsors even though they still have one year remaining on a deal they signed in 2020 after replacing long-term partners ABSA.
The national broadcaster reports that the talks are centered on whether to cut ties immediately or after the 2024-25 season that begins next month in a move that will affect PSL clubs greatly.
There is uncertainty over what will happen when the proposed sale of Multichoice, the parent company of DStv, is finalised with French firm Vivendi, the owner of Canal+.
PSL has never made public details of their DStv deal
PSL has never made public the financial details of their five-year deal with DStv after ending a reported R137 million per year partnership with ABSA which lasted since 2007.
The current deal is believed to be over R100 million with Premiership clubs getting R2 million grants which have been key in their sustainability.
Online gambling firm Betway is among the companies being mooted as potential sponsors if the PSL cuts ties with DStv but the two parties will have to reach an agreement quickly since the new season is close to starting.
