South African teams Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and University of Western Cape were sent packing in the Women’s CAF Champions currently ongoing in Morocco.

Nigeria’s Edo Queens stunned Sundowns Ladies with a 2-1 comeback victory, knocking the defending champions out on Saturday afternoon.

EDO QUEENS’ LATE COMEBACK

Sundowns took an early lead through Melinda Kgadiete, assisted by Karabo Dlamini. However, a late surge from Edo Queens saw them equalise in the final minutes of the match through Emem Essien.

The Nigerian side then capitalised on a defensive lapse to score a decisive goal from Mary Mamudu, securing a 2-1 victory and eliminating the defending champions.

Morocco's AS FAR Rabat secured their place in the next round of the competition by defeating UWC 2-0 on Friday.

A double from 19-year-old Doha El Madani propelled the hosts to a victory, securing their third consecutive win and topping Group A.

As expected, UWC started the second half strongly, aiming for a comeback. However, AS FAR's well-organised defense successfully repelled the South African side's advances.
