South African teams Mamelodi Sundowns and UWC Ladies were both eliminated in the group stages of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.
Defending champions Sundowns had a rocky start, losing 1-0 to Masar. They bounced back impressively with a 4-0 victory over Central Bank of Ethiopia, raising hopes for a semifinal spot. However, they faltered in their final group match, losing 2-1 to group winners Edo Queens after initially leading 1-0.
UWC Ladies, making their tournament debut, also struggled initially, losing 2-0 to TP Mazembe. They recovered with a 2-0 win against Aigles de la Médina in their second match. Unfortunately, their hopes for a semifinal spot were dashed by a 2-0 defeat to tournament favorites FAR Rabat.
AS FAR and TP Mazembe will be joined by in the semi-finals of the ongoing competition in Morocco by Nigeria’s Edo Queens and Egypt’s FC Masar.
CAF WCL NEW FORMAT
Eight teams will compete in the final phase of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League.
As reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns will be joined by the tournament hosts as the two automatically qualified.
Each of the CAF Zonal Unions (6) will conduct their own qualifiers, with the winners set to gain qualification to the CAF Women’s Champions League.

PRIZE MONEY
Each of the 8 African Women Football Clubs that are participating in the CAF Women’s Champions League Morocco 2024 will receive at least USD 150 000 in prize money.
The CAF Women’s Champions League is a new competition that was started under the new leadership of Dr Patrice Motsepe in 2021 and this year’s prize money has increased by 52% to USD 2 350 000.
The Winner will receive USD 600 000.
The Prize Money for the CAF Women’s Champions League Morocco 2024 is:

- Runner up: USD 400 000
- 3rd Place: USD 350 000
- 4th Place: USD 300 000
- 3rd of the Group: USD 200 000 each
