Mamelodi Sundowns legend Hlompho Kekana has praised Kaizer Chiefs’ move to hold off talks with out of contract players until their coaching situation is clear.
Chiefs are expected to appoint a new coach at the end of the current campaign after the term of current co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze ends in June while they have up to seven players whose futures are not clear.
Goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma, defenders Zitha Kwinika and Dillan Solomons, midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa, winger Pule Mmodi and playmaker Gaston Sirino will have their contract expiring on June 30 the same time when striker Khanyisa Mayo’s season-long loan deal will also be coming to an end.

However, according to SABC journalist Mazola Molefe, the club will not enter any talks until they are sure who their next coach will be, leaving the players in a state of uncertainty but Kekana feels this is a great decision from the Glamour Boys.
“This is a list of players that really deserve to get a contract from Kaizer Chiefs but as you said in the beginning, they are waiting for the coach to come and make a decision,” Kekana said on SABC’s Soccer Zone.
“I love the thinking because the coach who is coming, will have to coach these guys so he has to make a decision based on what he has seen and I think that is a good thing,” he added.
The affected players will now either have to wait until Chiefs sort out their coaching situation to learn their future at Naturena or engage other suitors if they so wish.
Who could stay and who might leave?

From the seven, perhaps only Kwinika can be certain of a contract extension given his rise to prominence this season while Bvuma had lost his position to Brandon Petersen, who had played all games until his injury in late February.
Meanwhile, Solomons could be in his final weeks at Chiefs after failing to nail down a place in the team same as Mthethwa, who is in and out of the team, while Mmodi is yet to light it up at the club.
Sirino is also another one who could be let go as his output and influence in matches have significantly reduced while with only one goal and injuries disrupting him, Mayo might also be let go.
