Mamelodi Sundowns have announced the arrival of Stellenbosch FC defender and Bafana Bafana international Fawaaz Basadien.
The 28-year-old had a good campaign at Stellies last season, playing 46 games across all competitions, with a return of seven goals and eight assists. It explains why he was given a chance by South Africa coach Hugo Broos and the defender fully capitalised on the opportunity to represent the country.
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates were keen on landing the defender, but they did not agree with his club. Mamelodi Sundowns have now confirmed the arrival of the versatile defender ahead of the new season.

Basadien will have to continue delivering on the pitch to stand a chance of getting playtime regularly. In the last three seasons, he made his name at Stellenbosch, but the new challenge will see him play with the best.
Davine Lunga and Aubrey Modiba have been dominating the left-back position at Mamelodi Sundowns. The former was even part of the team that played in the FIFA Club World Cup, playing all three games as his team ended the campaign with a win, a draw, and a loss.
This season, Sundowns will be aiming to successfully defend their PSL title and challenge for other domestic competitions. Basadien will also get a massive opportunity to play in the CAF Champions League in the 2024/25 edition.
The left-back is expected to be part of the Bafana Bafana team that will resume their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September. Later in the year, the national team will compete in the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
