SuperSport United vs Kaizer Chiefs: Preview, line-ups & where to watch

Published on by Willis Sob

Kaizer Chiefs hope to bounce back from their controversial Premier Soccer League loss against Mamelodi Sundowns to register another win in South African top-flight football this weekend.

However, they will not find it easy against the Swanky Boys who are desperate for positive results after an inconsistent run across all competitions.

The Soweto giants are seemingly getting their spark back after struggles that have lasted nine seasons explaining why coach Gavin Hunt is in hot soup.

Head-to-head

The latest meeting between the two teams was on Saturday, October 19 in the Carling Knockout, a match the Soweto Giants won 4-0 to advance to the quarter-final.

In the last five games between the sides across all competitions, Amakhosi have three wins while the Tshwane outfit have managed two.

What the coaches said

“Nobody has played Chiefs, Pirates, Chiefs in a week [SuperSport face Chiefs again on Saturday], if Chiefs played Pirates they never play Sundowns on Wednesday, so it's crazy,” Hunt said after a 2-0 loss against Orlando Pirates.

“We have a big game on Saturday, we will try to get over this period. I know the players are committed but obviously we're lacking the quality.”

Nabi is open to giving his players a chance to prove their worth, “We are trying to give everyone a chance especially those who don’t have game-time and we trust and believe in them, in their abilities to replace in their best capacities and as much as possible.

“At the right time, with the work that we have already started with the club, with the scouting department we’ll find that rare breed that is going to help us in the future.”

Team news and starting XI

SuperSport United might give new signing Abubeker Nassir his debut to cover up for the absence of the injured duo Grant Margeman and Bradley Grobler. But coach Hunt might not start him owing to match-fitness concerns.

SuperSport Probable XI: Goss, Hlatshwayo, Lakay, Sanoka, Mobbie, Rapoo, Ndlovu, Poggenpoel, Pule, Morris, Dzvukamanja

Kaizer Chiefs have no new injury concerns meaning coach Nabi will most likely stick with the team that beat the Swanky Boys in the Carling Knockout. Edson Castillo had a good game after coming off the bench but it seems Njabulo Blom is still struggling for match fitness.

Chiefs Probable XI: Ntwari, Miguel, Frosler, Cross, Dortley, Sirino, Maart, Shabalala, Zwane, Duba, Chivaviro

Time and where to watch

The match will take place on Saturday, October 26 from 17.30 at Peter Mokaba Stadium. It will be live on SuperSport 202.
