Mamelodi Sundowns started the defence of their PSL title on a positive note when they beat SuperSport United 2-0 on Tuesday.
It was back-to-back wins for Sundowns, who had won 4-0 away in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, which brought back the confidence ahead of their PSL opener.
The Brazilians had not had a great start to the season and pressure was already building on coach Manqoba Mngqithi after just three games due to the manner in which they were outclassed in the MTN8.
Even after the big weekend, Sundowns cannot afford a poor league start or questions will be raised about their title credentials and the suitability of Mngqithi.
Mngqithi replaced Rulani Mokwena who parted ways with the club in July and he is being assisted by Steve Komphela and Romain Folz.

Mamelodi Sundowns will get their CAF Champions League campaign back on track against Swallows in the second leg set to take place at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on September 21 but that is after their PSL opener against SuperSport United in September 17.
There will be a lot of pressure on the Brazilians to assert their dominance early in the league with fans expecting an eighth straight crown.
